Campanile Named 247Sports National Defensive Backs Coach of the Year

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College defensive backs coach Anthony Campanile was named National Defensive Backs Coach of the Year by 247Sports Tuesday. Campanile, in his second year on the staff at Boston College, oversaw a BC secondary that ranked among the national leaders in several different categories and featured Walter Camp Football Foundation Second-Team All-American Lukas Denis.

Denis is tied for the national lead with seven interceptions as the Eagles as a team rank tied for fifth nationally with 18 interceptions in 2017.

The BC secondary has been a key part in BC's fourth-ranked pass efficiency defense nationally. Opponents completed just 51.4 percent of their passes against BC, the seventh-best mark nationally.

BC finished the season ranked 32nd nationally in passing defense but, per PFF College's aggregated metrics, was actually one of the top units in the nation in passing defense.

The New Jersey native joined Steve Addazio's staff prior to the 2016 season. It marked the first time in Campanile's career he has been named a national position coach of the year.
