Women's hockey will head to the Bright-Landry Center for Wednesday night's game against Harvard
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The third-ranked Boston College women's hockey team will face Harvard tomorrow night, Wednesday, Nov. 22, in the team's final non-conference game of 2017. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Crimson's Bright-Landry Center in Boston.
After Wednesday's game, Boston College (10-1-2) will play 10 straight Hockey East games before another game against Harvard (4-2-1) at Kelley Rink on Jan. 16.
The Eagles come into the game after a tough Hockey East weekend series with UConn. On Friday, BC claimed a 3-0 win at Kelley Rink, but forced a 3-3 tie at the Huskies' Freitas Ice Forum on Saturday, twice coming back from one-goal deficits. Daryl Watts scored 4:55 into the third period to pull BC even at 3-3 and the Eagles left Storrs with the tie despite out-shooting the Huskies 14-5 in the final stanza.
Harvard comes into Wednesday's game off a weekend split with Holy Cross, which elevated to Division 1 this summer in preparation of joining Hockey East for the 2018-19 season. The Crimson took an 8-3 win in Boston on Friday night. After the Crusaders took a 3-2 lead midway through the second period, Harvard scored six unanswered goals to claim the win. On Saturday, Holy Cross earned its first-ever D1 win with a 2-0 victory in Worcester behind a pair of second-period goals less than 2:00 apart.
Underclassmen have been pacing the Crimson this season, with three freshmen and one sophomore atop the Harvard statistics. Becca Gilmore leads the way with 9 points (3 goals, 6 assists) in seven games, while Brooke Jovanovich (4 goals, 4 assists) sits second with 8 points. Sophomore Kat Hughes (3-4-7) and freshman Keely Moy (4 goals, 2 assists) rank third and fourth on the Crimson.
Sophomore Beth Larcom has seen the majority of time in goal this year, posting a 4-1-1 record with a 2.15 goals against average and a .911 save percentage in her six starts.
On Wednesday, BC will look to win just its third game against Harvard at the Bright-Landry Center. In 2016, the Eagles claimed a 2-0 win in the road game behind Meghan Grieves' two goals and a 29-save shutout from Katie Burt. It was the Eagles' first win in Boston against Harvard since 2006 and the first in a non-Beanpot game at the arena.
Overall, BC is 2-14-1 at the Bright-Landry Center, part of their 13-25-1 all-time mark overall against the Crimson. BC is 12-4-1 against Harvard since February 2006.
For BC, Makenna Newkirk will look to extend her season-opening point streak to 14 games. Should she register a point on Wednesday, she will move into a tie with Kelli Stack '11 for fifth place on the Eagles' list of longest point streaks.
After Wednesday's game, BC has the weekend off before hosting Northeastern in the first of the teams' 2017-18 meetings. The teams will meet next Tuesday, Nov. 28, at Kelley Rink at 7 p.m.
