BC visits Syracuse looking for its seventh win of the season Saturday
EJ took some snaps today?
Yeah I thought that EJ had another good day out here today. He's starting to get more comfortable and that's all part of it. It's a process, just like it was when Anthony started playing. The enormity of it all is hard on young, freshman quarterbacks. He's doing a great job and he's got a great mindset.
Â
How are the receivers/other players responding to him?
These guys are on it. They just go. They're responding well.
Â
Do you get the sense that EJ is prepared to step up?
Yes. He's one snap away from running this whole operation. That's a tall order. We have to get him in the game. He's got to start to get a feel and get more reps because, with one bad snap, it's all on him.
Â
It looks like Dungey isn't going to play. Do you still prepare as if he was?
Yes. He's a highly competitive guy and if he can play, he's going to play. I don't know what his status is but we have to prepare for all of the above.
Â
Were you able to get a sampling of the others – Mahoney and Culpepper?
Yes. Watched a lot of tape on Mahoney and I know Culpepper. They're really good players and really talented. Dungey is elite but these guys are very talented. Syracuse is a great school.
Â
What does it say about the system that they can plug a guy in like that and make it work?
I don't think they are going to change anything major. Any time you are down on the run game, you have to be a little concerned about running the quarterback too much. We all are. You're one bad hit away from losing another guy. So, when you got a little more depth, you can be a little more risky.
Â
Talk about Darius' strengths and weaknesses.
Darius is super smart. He understands everything we want to do and he throws the ball very, very well. Darius is very athletics. He's got all that going for him, so he can do everything that we want to do physically and mentally. I think he's very, very capable and throws a beautiful deep ball. We still have the opportunity to see the best of Darius.
Â
Does being left-handed give you an advantage at all?
Yeah I think so. It's a little different, a lefty coming at you. Our guys are used to all that and, in terms of them, it's a little different for them. But he's very athletic.
Â
What can you do to take the pressure off AJ Dillon?
The way to help AJ Dillon is throw the ball better. I think that's what you got to do. If they want to put the safeties down low, you have to get the ball over the top of the safeties. I think the ability to spread the ball on the field and work the perimeter. That makes it harder on a defense because he and Jon are going to run the ball and if you over-commit to the run, it will open up great opportunities for us in the throw game.
