Eagles take weekly honors after capturing player of the week honors from their respective conferences
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College freshman running back AJ Dillon (football) and sophomore goaltender Joseph Woll (men's hockey) have been named Nissan Eagles of the Week following their performances last week.
Â
On Saturday against Connecticut, Dillon finished with his second career 200-yard game, rushing for 200 yards on 34 carries with two touchdowns. Dillon had two 50-plus yard runs in the first half and totaled 140 yards and a touchdown at halftime.
Â
He is 10th in Boston College single-season history with 1,239 rushing yards, and is fourth among ACC freshmen all-time in single-season rushing. On Monday, Dillon was named ACC Rookie of the Week for the second time in 2017.
Â
On Friday at New Hampshire, Woll stopped 23-of-25 Wildcat attempts, including one save that yielded him the No. 2 play on SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays of the day. Woll tried to play a puck off the glass but it took a weird carom off the stanchion and kicked out, landing right between the circles for an easy UNH goal. Woll immediately detected where the puck bounced to and sprinted back to the crease and made a diving save to thwart UNH's effort for the game-tying goal with 5:30 left to play in regulation. BC took the 3-2 victory, pushing its winning streak to seven games – tied for longest in the nation.
Â
On Monday, Woll was tabbed the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week.
Â
Football closes the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 25, when the Eagles travel to Syracuse for a 12:20 p.m. kickoff at the Carrier Dome. Men's hockey returns to the ice on Friday, Nov. 24, when the Eagles host Harvard at 4 p.m. at Kelley Rink. Â
