
West Sets New Season High against Duke

DeJarld registers third straight double-double
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Sophomore Sophie West produced her new season high single match hitting record, hitting .625 as Boston College volleyball fell to Duke, 3-1, Friday evening in Chestnut Hill.
Duke took the first set quickly, 25-15, after utilizing runs to pull ahead, but the Eagles found their fight in the second set thanks to an early 7-1 run. Though they fell in the second frame, 25-20, they found another early lead in the third game, then a 7-1 run to jump out to match point. BC took the third 25-18, but could not overcome a 7-0 run Duke had in the fourth and ultimately fell.
Graduate Lynn Braakhuis led the Eagles with 11 kills, followed by senior Sol Calvete and junior McKenna Goss with nine kills apiece. Sophomore Jill Strockis had team-high 13 digs on the night, but sophomore Jane DeJarld's 11 digs added to her match-high 28 digs for her third straight double-double. West's .625 attack percentage led the match.
Duke was paced by Cadie Bates with 16 kills on the night, while Nicole Elattrache registered 19 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
The Blue Devils hit their stride quickly, finding a 5-2 run right off the back before kills from freshman Amaka Chukwujekwu and West broke up the run. Duke then found a 7-2 jump out to a 15-8 lead. The Eagles could find no significant runs as Duke utilized a 5-0 run to close out the first frame, 25-15.
SET 2
A 7-1 run from BC kicked off the second frame, which included three kills from Braakhuis, a kill and an ace from Goss, a block by Goss and Chukwujekwu and a Duke attack error. Duke then hit a 5-0 run to bring their deficit to 8-7. Down by 14-12, Duke rode a 7-2 to pull ahead at 17-16. The squads were evenly matched until a 6-1 run from the Blue Devils ended the set, 25-20.
SET 3
Though Duke stole the first two points of the set, the Eagles let a 7-2 – with kills from Goss, Braakhuis and Chukwujekwu, a Strockis service ace and a block from Chuckwujekwu and Goss – pull them into an early 7-4 lead. Rallies went back and forth until a West kills ignited a 7-1 run that boosted the Eagles to 24-15. An attack error was the Blue Devils undoing and the Eagles won the set 25-18.
SET 4
After being tied at 3-all, Duke took the lead with a 7-0 run. Though no runs were made by either team, the Eagles couldn't combat the Blue Devils' lead and fell, 25-15.
