Eagles will face Connecticut Friday at home and Saturday in Storrs
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – This weekend, the second-ranked Boston College women's hockey team is set for its first Hockey East home-and-home series of the year.
Boston College (9-1-1, 4-0-1 HEA) hosts Connecticut (4-4-3, 0-3-2 HEA) at Kelley Rink on Friday, Nov. 17, at 6 p.m., before traveling to Storrs on Saturday, Nov. 18, for a 3 p.m. faceoff against the Huskies at Freitas Ice Forum.
This weekend's games wrap up the teams' three-game conference series this year. Earlier this year, the teams played to a 2-2 tie in Storrs on Oct. 20. BC twice battled back from a one-goal deficit to earn the tie, despite out-shooting the Huskies 47-30 in the game, including a 22-8 mark in the third period. Toni Ann Miano and Daryl Watts both notched power-play goals in the game.
BC comes into the weekend following the road split at then-No. 8 St. Lawrence last Friday and Saturday. The Eagles suffered their first loss of the season last Friday in Canton, N.Y., falling 2-1 to the Saints. On Saturday, Boston College rebounded with a 6-3 win behind a pair of goals each from Makenna Newkirk and Willow Corson.
Since facing the Eagles last month, UConn has gone 1-2-2, with a home win and a tie against RPI; a loss and a tie at BU and an overtime loss at Maine on Sunday. The Huskies have played three straight overtime games coming into the weekend.
BC leads the all-time series against Connecticut, posting a 30-14-9 record – including a 28-12-8 mark in Hockey East play. The Eagles are 16-6-2 at home and 12-8-6 in Storrs. Since the 2007-08 season, BC is 13-0-1 at Kelley Rink. The lone tie came last year – a 4-4 event in which BC twice battled back from three-goal deficits to earn the point – in the game between BC's Beanpot contests.
Newkirk, who had an assist in the teams' last meeting, leads all active Eagles in scoring against UConn with 11 points; she has posted two goals and nine assists in eight games. Katie Burt, who earned her 100th career win last Saturday at St. Lawrence, has a 1.26 goals against average and a .931 save percentage to go with her 9-0-2 career record against the Huskies.
After the teams meet on Saturday afternoon, BC will step out of conference play for the last time until early February when they head to Harvard for a non-conference game next Wednesday, Nov. 22. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Crimson's Bright Hockey Center in Boston.
