Eagles begin action Feb. 9
Chestnut Hill, Mass. – Boston College, after falling to Notre Dame in extra innings of the ACC Quarterfinals last year, will officially open the 2018 softball schedule on Friday, Feb. 9, according to the schedule released today by head coach Ashley Obrest. | 2018 schedule
The schedule is subject to change and any updates will be posted to bceagles.com.
The Eagles, who finished 31-22 last season, will play a 54-game schedule during the 2018 campaign which includes 24 ACC matches. BC went 14-9 in ACC play last year, finishing third in the conference behind Florida State and North Carolina.
"We are thrilled with the way our 2018 schedule has shaped up," head coach Ashley Obrest said. "Adding Florida State back to the ACC schedule along with Alabama, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and Nebraska, will provide a challenging preseason line up that we are eager to tackle. We have a group of athletes that are driven and ready to embrace our expectations!"
BC begins its schedule with a five-game slate at the Texas A&M Tournament. The Eagles will face three teams in three days in the series, including Houston, Texas Tech and Texas A&M. Texas A&M finished last season ranked eighth in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25.
Following 21 non-conference matches, BC begins ACC play on March 16 against Duke in a three-game road series. The Eagles return home March 23 against Virginia at the new Brighton Athletics Fields. After that homestand, the Eagles will play cross-town rival Boston University on March 28.
The Eagles will then be on the road for seven games, including three-game series against ACC rivals Syracuse and NC State.
BC will then host UMass (April 10) and UConn (April 11), followed by three-game series against Florida State and Notre Dame. Florida State finished last season ranked tenth in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25. In all, the Eagles will host 18 games this season.
BC will complete the regular season with a three-game series May 4-6 at home against Georgia Tech. The ACC Championship will be May 9-12 at Georgia Tech.
With only four seniors on last year's team and five incoming freshman, BC will field a talented group of student-athletes. The team will be led by senior captains Jessica Dreswick, Allyson Frei and Chloe Sharabba. Dreswick and senior Annie Murphy earned NFCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Honors, as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association in May. Dreswick, Murphy and Sharabba were also named to the All-ACC team last season. BC looks to pursue its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2003.
