BC hopes to preserve perfect non-conference record
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 11 Boston College field hockey team travels to Storrs, Conn., to take on top-ranked Connecticut on Saturday at 4 p.m. The game – which was originally scheduled for Sunday – was moved up a day due to predicted inclement weather.
Â
The Eagles (11-6) head to Connecticut with a perfect, 11-0 non-conference record. The Huskies (15-0) are perfect overall and have been ranked the No.1 team for most of the season. BC is 5-0 coming off a loss in 2017. The Eagles dropped the final ACC game at No. 13 Wake Forest the last time out on Oct. 20.
Â
The Eagles and Huskies have met every year since 2010 with BC holding a 12-24-1 record against UConn. The Huskies have earned wins in the last four meetings. The Eagles' last win came in 2014 at home when the game went to penalty strokes. Senior Brooke Matherson assisted on the game-tying goal in the 69th minute, which sent it to extra time.
Â
Ten meetings between the two squads have gone to extra time. BC is 3-7 in those contests. The Eagles and Huskies have faced off five times in the NCAA Tournament with Connecticut winning each time.
Â
Senior Chelcie Mendonca is the only Eagle on the current roster to have played in all five meetings against the Huskies dating back to 2014. Junior Frederique Haverhals and senior Alesandra Miller logged assists in 2016 contests.
Â
Before hosting BC, the Huskies take on Quinnipiac in Hamden, Conn., on Friday afternoon. They are coming off two straight American Athletic Conference wins over Georgetown and Liberty to keep a perfect record. They scored a season-high 10 goals against the Hoyas on Oct. 21.
Â
After the Eagles' stint in Storrs, they will travel to Louisville, Ky. Seventh-seed Boston College takes on No. 2 seed Duke in the first round of the ACC Championships on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 1:30 p.m.
