Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez will be the featured guest
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The 26th Annual Baseball Night In Boston is set for Thursday, January 18 from 6-9 p.m. at Fenway Park's State Street Pavilion. The event is the single largest fundraiser for the Boston College baseball program. This year's event will feature hall of famer and Red Sox legend Pedro Martinez.
Â
"Baseball Night is vital to our program as the proceeds directly contribute to the success of the team and competing the best conference in collegiate baseball – the ACC," head coach Mike Gambino said. "We greatly appreciate all the contributions, which allow us to develop our players in the classroom and on the field and fitful the Boston College motto of 'Men and Women for Others.' We are excited to host Pedro Martinez this year as he is an icon not just on the baseball field, but across all Boston sports. He is an excellent representative of what it means to part of a winning team and the fabric of storied sports city."
Â
Martinez played for five different teams in his 18-year Major League Baseball career, most notably for the Red Sox from 1998 to 2004, where he helped Boston break the 86-year old curse and win the 2004 World Series. A three-time Cy Young Award winner and eight-time All-Star, he was inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015. His number 45 was retired by the Red Sox the same year. Martinez ended his career with a 2.93 ERA, the sixth-lowest by a pitcher with at least 2,500 innings pitched since 1920. His .687 winning percentage was the fourth-highest in history and the highest by a right-hander since the modern pitching era began in 1893. He reached the 3,000-strikeout mark in the second-fewest innings ever. In 1999, he was runner-up for the American League's Most Valuable Player Award after winning the pitching triple crown with a 23-4 record, 2.07 ERA and 313 strikeouts and captured the Cy Young, joining just three other hurlers who won the award in both leagues.
Â
Proceeds from Baseball Night help to defray the team's early-season trips, which are vital preparation for the ACC slate. The funds raised also contribute to annual operating expenses including recruiting, equipment and scholarships.
Â
There are several ways to support the success of the event. The first is by purchasing tickets or a sponsorship. Independent financial contributions, along with auction item donations, are also essential to the evening. Donated items such as tickets to sporting or non-sporting events, autographed balls, pictures and jerseys, along with many other items will be auctioned off the night of the event.
Â
Tickets cost $150 until Dec. 31 and increase to $175 on Jan. 1. If supporters purchase tickets before Dec. 31, they have the option to add an exclusive BC baseball game Flexfit hat for $35.
Â
For the first time, various levels of sponsorship will be available. The $5,000 Gold Sponsorship will include 10 tickets, parking passes and access to a VIP reception with Pedro Martinez. The $2,500 Silver Sponsorship includes four tickets and an exclusive tour of Fenway Park, including access to the club hour and press box. The $1,000 Maroon Sponsorship includes two tickets and an exclusive BC baseball gear package.
