The Eagles look for first conference victory in Winston-Salem
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The ninth-ranked Boston College field hockey team travels to Winston-Salem, N.C., for a Friday evening bout with 13th-ranked Wake Forest at Kentner Stadium. The Eagles (11-5, 0-5 ACC) are seeking an Atlantic Coast Conference victory against the Demon Deacons (9-6, 2-3 ACC) to close out the conference slate.
Â
BC has won all 11 of its non-conference games, including six ranked opponents, but been unsuccessful against in conference, dropping two of the five games by in extra time. All of the ACC teams were ranked in the top 11. After each BC loss, the Eagles responded with victories the following games, including three shutouts.
Â
The Eagles are on a three-game win streak, topping all three Boston opponents by one goal each - then No. 13 Harvard, 2-1, in a shootout (Oct. 8), Northeastern, 2-1 (Oct. 13), and at No. 23 Boston University, 3-2, in overtime (Oct. 15). BC started 2017 with four straight victories, the longest win streak of the season, before falling to then fifth-ranked Syracuse in the first ACC game of the season. The longest win streak under third-year head coach Kelly Doton came in 2015 when the Eagles won five straight (Oct. 18-Nov. 5) and included victories at Virginia and against Wake Forest. BC's final two games are at No. 13 Wake Forest and at top-ranked Connecticut, who has not lost yet this season.
