Orange Head to Newton with Key ACC Points on the Line

Eagles look to top Syracuse and jump in the ACC standings
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College men's soccer team will look to ride the momentum from Tuesday's 3-1 win at Harvard through into Friday's game against ACC rival Syracuse. Tuesday's win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Eagles, and gave the team a boost as the Orange come to town with crucial ACC points on the line as the conference schedule winds down.
Friday's kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at the Newton Campus Fields. The game will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra, which is accessible via WatchESPN.com and the ESPN app.
BC used a hat trick from Simon Enstrom – his first-career three-goal game – to overcome the Crimson on the road on Tuesday. Two assists each from Younes Boudadi and Adam French helped set up the goals, while Antonio Chavez Borrelli's shutout bid was halted by a late penalty-kick decision that Harvard converted.
Boston College (4-8-0) comes into Friday's game with an 0-5-0 mark in ACC play. Despite their last three league results all ending as 1-0 defeats, the Eagles have held the edge in play in all three games. Building on that Friday will be key for the team as they look to improve their seeding for the 2017 ACC Championship, which begins in just three weeks. A win against Syracuse would leapfrog the Eagles from 12th place in the league to as high as a tie for 10th – over 'Cuse – with two conference games remaining.
Ranked No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll, Syracuse (5-6-2, 0-4-1 ACC) comes into Friday's game having lost three in a row and six of their last seven, all one-goal defeats. Last Friday, they fell at home to NC State, 2-1, after a mid-week home loss to Akron. On Sept. 29, the Orange dropped a 2-1 decision to Pitt on the road, giving the Panthers their only ACC points on the year. 'Cuse's lone league point came in its first game, a 2-2 draw at Virginia in the conference's opening weekend.
Longtime rivals from the schools' Big East days, the Eagles bring a 15-12-1 edge in the all-time series – which dates back to 1982 – into Friday's game against Syracuse. BC is 9-3-1 all-time against the Orange at home – including wins in the last four meetings in Newton (2001, 2003, 2013, 2015).
However, since Syracuse joined the ACC, SU is 3-2-0 in all competitions against the Eagles with each team winning its home games. Last season, 'Cuse topped BC in Syracuse, 2-0. BC claimed a 2-1 win in Newton during the 2015 regular season, but Syracuse won 1-0 later that year in the NCAA Elite Eight game in Central New York.
Following Friday's game, the Eagles will host Connecticut on Tuesday, Oct. 17, in the team's final non-conference game of the year. Kickoff for that game is set for 6 p.m., and the match will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
