
Eagles Return to Track at Beantown Challenge

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Boston College women's track and field team resumed its indoor season on Saturday, taking to Harvard's Gordon Indoor Track for the Beantown Challenge.

The Eagles had highlight performances in a slew of distance events. With her time of 1:17.95 in the 500m, senior Christina Kyritsis took the silver medal in the event, falling just 0.02 seconds short of the gold. In the 800m, redshirt sophomore Molly McCabe finished in second place in the field of competition with her time of 2:14.47. Senior Claudia DiSomma impressed in the 1000m, winning her heat and taking first overall, crossing the line in 2:52.48. Sophomore Sarah Marvin also turned in a first-place performance in the 3000m out of all collegiate athletes, posting a time of 10:01.83, a new personal best.

In addition to the performances by Kyritsis and DiSomma, other Boston College seniors had impressive showings on the day. Danna Levin took fifth place overall in the 3000m in 10:25.03, while Gabriella Candelieri won her heat in the 300m with her time of 42.36.

In the relays, the Boston College 4x880yd tandem of sophomore Gianna Bender, freshman Naomi Cartier, DiSomma, and freshman Anna Flynn finished first place overall 9:22.95. After conversion to 4x800m standard time, the squad qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 4x800m relay.

The Eagles' showing in the 4x440yd relay was also exceptional. The team of junior Julia Barron, Kyritsis, senior Robin Gross, and McCabe took third place overall in the meet with their time of 3:56.38.

Boston College will be back in action on Thursday, Jan. 19, at Boston University, where the Eagles will race against the hosting Terriers, UMass Amherst and Sacred Heart.
