Service trip gives student-athletes time to bond
The Boston College softball team will chronicle their experiences on the Devlin S-AFE Trip in New Orleans throughout the week. The trip focuses on community service in partnership with the St. Bernard Project, helping rebuild homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Junior third baseman/catcher Jordan Chimento discussed highlights of the second day:
Â
As the student-athletes take on Day 2 in New Orleans, we rise up early with a bunch of energy to eat a fantastic breakfast made by our loving cooks for the week. Although the softball team needs their beauty sleep, it was important for us to bring positive attitudes to the environment and complete all the tasks.
Â
We arrived the worksite at 7 a.m. sharp, put our work suits on and sanded our hearts away. We were challenged with staying focused and not goofing around, but we completed the job and moved on to priming the following day. The weather was extremely nice, which put everyone in the best of moods. The experience has been extremely rewarding and fulfilling.
Â
The best part of the trip has been able to connect with other student-athletes at Boston College. Friendships and memories have been created which we will remember for our entire lives. We have been so fortunate to be provided with this opportunity by the Devlin Family and members of the athletic department. It has been a blessing.
