Louisville scored 20 seconds into the second overtime to steal a 3-2 victory from the Boston College Eagles on Sunday afternoon in an ACC match at Kentucky. Boston College is now 9-2-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the ACC, while Louisville improved to 7-2-2 and 2-0-1 in the conference.
TURNING POINT
-Inger Katrina Bjerke scored with one minute left in regulation for at 2-2 draw and push the game into overtime.
HIGHLIGHTS
- It was a freshman connection on the first goal as the Eagles earned a corner kick. Samantha Hiatt took the corner kick and struck a long ball to the back of the box. Jade Ruiters one-timed the ball into the middle of the box and fellow rookie Olivia Vaughn headed it to the back of the goal for a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute of play.
- The rookie forward gave BC a 2-0 lead in the 38th minute. Kayla Jennings broke up a pass at midfield and Vaughn picked the loose ball up on the collision and headed towards the box. Vaughn dribbled the ball three times and ripped a shot from 23 yards out to the far corner for a 2-0 BC lead. This is the first game Vaughn has scored two goals in her Eagles career.
- In the 74th minute, Jill Vetere scored on a penalty kick that went under BC goalkeepers Alexis Bryant's reach. Louisville was awarded the penalty when BC fouled a Louisville offensive player just inside the box.
- Bryant kept the Eagles up 2-1 when Louisville had a great chance in the box and she deflected the ball wide of the goal in the 11th minute of play.
- Louisville tied the game at 2-2 when Inger Katrina Bjerke scored off a pass from Niamh Nelson in with one minute to play in the match.
- To open the first overtime, McKenzie Meehan had a free kick from 25 yards out. Her shot just went by the top corner.
- The Cardinals won the game just 20 seconds into the second overtime, when Kaela Dickerman headed in a looping ball into the box. Dickerman placed it into the top corner, out of the reach of Bryant.
