BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Freshman Jill Strockis and junior Sol Calvete headlined the Eagles' stat lines on Sunday, each posting double-doubles of 12 kills and 11 digs.
- Three Eagles posted hitting percentages over .300: freshman Sophia West (.333), Calvete (.321) and sophomore McKenna Goss (.318).
-This was the first match on the season that BC forced a deciding set after going down 0-2. The Maroon and Gold is 2-4 in deciding sets thus far this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
The teams exchanged points until the Eagles won four straight points to take an 8-5 lead, forcing a North Carolina timeout. The Tarheels rallied to tie the set again at eight, putting the teams in another deadlock until North Carolina jumped ahead 21-17 after winning five straight points. UNC finished their run at 9-2, winning the set 25-19.
Set 2
The Tarheels pulled ahead early and earned an 11-6 lead that forced a BC timeout. North Carolina led by as much as eight points in the set as the Eagles could not string together a comeback run, and won the set 25-17.
Set 3
The Eagles outhit the Tarheels .368 to .229 in the set, fending off a sweep. BC rallied from three points down at 9-6, using a five point run to lead 13-10. North Carolina tied the set again at 16, but the Maroon and Gold hung on for a 25-19 victory.
Set 4
BC worked to build a lead, but couldn't muster anything more than a two-point lead at 16-14, following a North Carolina timeout. The Maroon and Gold strung together four of six points to go ahead 20-16, and never looked back, winning the set 25-21 to draw level at two sets all.
Set 5
The entire set saw a back and forth battle between the Eagles and the Tarheels. BC led at 12-10 and earned match point at 14-13, but North Carolina would not go away. The Maroon and Gold could not convert on any of their three match points, but UNC won the match on its fourth match point.
