BC HIGHLIGHTS
Freshman Jill Strockis finished the game with nine kills and nine digs while junior Sol Calvete posted seven kills and five digs.
Sophomore Camille Oemcke led BC with 11 assists and had six digs. Rookie Jane DeJarld chipped in with 10 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – (Miami 25-23)
The teams exchanged points until the Eagles won four straight points to take a 6-3 lead, behind three kills from BC's Sol Calvete (six kills in the first set). The game went to 9-9 behind three errors by the Eagles but they bounced back and took a 12-9 lead off two service aces from Jill Stockis and a Miami miscue off a serve.
Miami slowly chipped away at the BC lead as the Hurricanes tied the match at 22-22. Olga Strantzali (17 kills) kill gave Miami the lead and the Hurricanes closed the game out on a service error, 25-24.
Set 2 (Miami 25-17)
The Hurricanes took a quick 5-2 lead and pushed the lead to 8-3 behind two more kills from Stantzali. BC hung in as Sophia West came up with a block to cut the Hurricane lead to 9-7.
Miscues and another powerful kill from Stantzali gave Miami a 15-9 lead. The Eagles battled but Miami pulled away, 25-17.
Set 3 (Miami 25-14)
Miami sprinted out to a 4-1 lead behind a kill from Lucia Pampana and Stranzali. BC cut the lead to one point 4-3, on a great block from Jasmine Gritton and Julia Topor.
The Hurricanes ran off three straight points to push the lead to 7-3 before a BC kill from Jill Strockis kill ended the run. A 7-0 run by Miami set the Eagles back, 16-5. The Eagles battled and ran off three straight points with two kills by Cat Balido but it was too late. Miami pulled away, 25-14.
UP NEXT
The Eagles end the two-game road swing in Florida on Sunday with a game at No. 15 Florida State at 1 p.m. BC's next home game is on Thursday, October 6 vs. Louisville at 7:30 p.m. in Power Gym.
