CONNAR TAVA
Position: Forward
Height: 6-6
Weight: 250
Hometown: Macomb, Mich.
High School: Warren De La Salle
Previous School: Western Michigan
At Western Michigan
Missed all of last season recovering from a broken foot … a two-time All-MAC Honorable Mention player as a sophomore and junior … named to the Preseason All-MAC West Team prior to last season … led the Broncos in rebounding (6.2), field goal percentage (.521) and assists (3.3), and was second on the team in scoring (12.3) as a junior … ranked 17th in the MAC in scoring, 11th in rebounding, sixth in field goal percentage and ninth in assists that season … averaged 11.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists as a sophomore when WMU won the MAC tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
On why he chose Boston College…
"A combination of the academics and of course playing in the ACC. It's something that I've always dreamed of. Breaking my foot, which at the time wasn't ideal, in the long run it worked out for me."
On the difference between workouts at Western Michigan and Boston College…
"The pace is definitely a little bit quicker. For me, being a fifth-year guy, it's not that big of an adjustment. Maybe as a freshman coming in and playing college basketball it would be a big adjustment."
On what his role will be with this team…
"Obviously, I will bring some experience and leadership. I know how seasons go with non-conference and conference play. You have to get the guys motivated through the dog days of practice and things like that. There are days when you don't want to bring it and you're tired. Those are days when you have to get morale up on the team."
What has been your favorite memory of your career so far…
"Going to the NCAA Tournament. We played Syracuse and lost, but just the experience of going there, especially being from a mid-major where you only have a one-bid league. When you win the conference tournament it's pretty much like winning the Super Bowl."
On his biggest strengths on the court…
"Inside, I'm more of a finisher. I'm versatile. I can bring the ball up. Passing - I think I led Western in assists my last two years."
One word to describe yourself on the court…
"Bulldog."
On what he is most looking forward to this year…
"I am looking forward to getting back on the court and playing. I miss being competitive after sitting out last year. It's hard just watching the team."
