Former Birdballers Kick Off August with Third Ice Bucket Challenge

The Eagles continue to raise awareness and funds for Pete Frates
"Every August Until A Cure." That is the battle cry of Team FrateTrain, the friends, family and many supports of Pete Frates, the former Boston College baseball player who was the catalyst behind the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in August 2014 that raised over $220 million for a previously under-funded disease.Â
Recently, it was announced that the money raised from the first Ice Bucket Challenge funded scientists who discover what could be the gene causing Lou Gehrig's Disease. While it gives Frates and the FrateTrain hope, it also gives them purpose. More funding is needed. Each August, they ask that people continue to get out their ice and buckets and dump water on their heads until a cure for ALS is found.
Former baseball players, including head coach Mike Gambino and recent first-round picks Justin Dunn and Chris Shaw, started off the month by participating in their third ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and challenging current and former teammates to do the same.
