Milano Named to Butkus Award Watch List

The senior linebacker also earned a spot on the Bednarik Award Watch List
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College linebacker Matt Milano earned a spot on the 2016 32nd annual Butkus Award watch list. The award honors the nation's best linebacker. The senior was also named to the Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List, given to the college defensive player of the year.

Milano is one of 50 candidates on the watch list, including one of five from the Atlantic Coast Conference. In 2011, former Luke Kuechly won the Butkus Award. He is also the professional award winner the past two seasons.

Milano enters his senior year with 83 career tackles, including 20.5 tackles for a loss of 100 yards, over 37 games in the Maroon and Gold. In 2015, he led the Eagles with 17.5 tackles for a loss and 6.5 sacks for a loss of 45 yards. He also blocked two punts on the special teams units. The Orlando, Fla., native earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference third-team honors from the league's head coaches and honorable mention from the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA). He was also selected as a Pro Football Focus All-American honorable mention.

The Butkus Award will name semifinals on Oct. 31 and finalists will be announced on Nov. 21. The winner will be notified on or before Dec. 6.

Milano, along with classmate Myles Willis, will represent Boston College at ACC Kickoff in Charlotte, N.C., on July 22.
