Five Tabbed for U.S. National Team Tryouts
June 27, 2016 | Lacrosse
Current and former Eagles will vie for a spot on the 2016-17 national team
Five current and former Boston College lacrosse players are among the 105 players selected to try out for the 2016-17 U.S. Women's National Team, US Lacrosse announced last week.
Â
The players invited include rising sophomore Dempsey Arsenault (defense), rising junior Kenzie Kent (attack), Sarah Mannelly '16 (midfield), rising sophomore Elizabeth Miller (defense) and Mikaela Rix '15 (midfield).
Â
National team try-outs will be held Friday, Aug. 5 through Sunday, Aug. 7, at US Lacrosse's national team training center in Sparks, Md.
Â
Following the try-out, a pool of 36 players will be selected to train ahead of the 2017 Federation of International Lacrosse Women's World Cup, which will be held in Guildford, England, July 13-22, 2017. Of the training pool, 18 players will ultimately be selected to represent the U.S. in the Women's World Cup next summer as the Americans contend for their third consecutive – and eighth overall – world title.
Â
Arsenault and Miller both started all 19 of the Eagles' games this past season, which saw BC claim its fifth NCAA Tournament bid, and fourth in a row. Boston College allowed 10.63 goals per game.
Â
Kent is coming off her second shortened season after joining the lacrosse team after wrapping up play with the women's hockey team in late March in both 2015 and 2016. This season, Kent earned first-team IWLCA all-region honors after copping second-team All-ACC accolades. As a sophomore last year, Kent posted 35 points (18 goals, 17 assists) in just 10 games, ranking fifth on the team.
Â
Before closing her collegiate career in May, Mannelly earned back-to-back All-America honors and helped pace the Eagles to top-10 rankings each of the last two years. As a senior, she posted a team-best 74 points (38 goals and 36 assists) following a 67-point campaign as a junior in which she was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award. Mannelly closed her career ranked third in program history in career scoring (255 points), third in career goals (173) and fourth in career assists (82).
Â
Rix closed her career ranked fourth in career points (222), second in career goals (187) and as the Eagles' career leader in draw controls (219). She was a three-time All-American, a four-time all-region selection and a four-time All-ACC honoree. She was a member of the 2014-15 US Lacrosse Women's National Team, as well as a member of the U.S.' 2011 Under-19 World Championship team.
Â
The 2016 Eagles finished the year with a 10-9 record. Â
