OXFORD, Miss. - The Boston College baseball team touched down in Oxford, Miss., on Wednesday night as they Eagles (31-20) prepare for their first NCAA Regional in seven years. They will face No. 15 Tulane (39-19) in the first game on Friday at 4 p.m. EST at host Ole Miss's Swayze Field. The game will broadcast on ESPN3.
Before BC left The Heights, sixth-year head coach Mike Gambino spoke to the media about the team's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2009 and the Eagles' approach. Junior captain Nick Sciortino noted that the Eagles will continue to play their game while senior captain Joe Cronin said it's more than getting to the Regional, it's about winning it.

Junior right-hander Justin Dunn will get the start for BC on Friday. A closer turned starter, he has helped the Eagles reach the postseason, wries Rich Thompson in Thursday's Boston Herald.
Gambino is no stranger to Oxford. While a scout for the Detroit Tigers, he spend a lot of time at Oxford-University Stadium. He is looking forward to his return and to the Eagles witnessing one of the best college baseball atmospheres in the nation.Â
The first-game matchup is also pitting Birdball families against each other. Brother Blake Butera (2012-15) and Barry Butera Jr. (2007-09) both played at BC while father, Barry Sr., played for Tulane. It's clear who Blake and the younger Barry will be rooting for and interesting to see where senior Barry's allegiance lies.
