Four Eagles Hope to Make NFL Rosters

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Two former members of the Boston College football team signed free agent contacts with NFL teams while two more have invitations to rookie mini-camp.

Defensive linemen Mehdi Abdesmad (Tennessee Titans) and Connor Wujciak (Philadelphia Eagles) signed contracts, while offensive lineman Dave Bowen (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) and wide receiver David Dudeck (Seattle Seahawks) were invited to join the teams' rookie mini-camps.

Adbesmad, a two-year starter on the defensive line for the Eagles, was a key member of the nation's No. 1-ranked defense. Appearing in all games, he totaled 49 tackles on the season, including 35 solo stops, and 15 tackles for a loss of 59 yards. He added 5.5 sacks. For his career – which spanned six seasons because of injuries – he notched 98 career tackles (58 solo) and had 21.5 tackles for a loss and 7.5 sacks.

The Montreal, Quebec, native earned ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week honors on Sept. 5 for his performance against Maine in which he recorded four tackles, including 2.5 tackles for a loss and 1.5 sacks. At the conclusion of the season, Abdesmad earned honorable mention All-ACC honors.

Wujciak, a three-year starter on the defensive line, was another key member of the Eagles' top-ranked defensive corps. He started all 12 games at nose tackle, registering 31 tackles – including 24 solo stops. That total included 3.5 sacks and 11 tackles for a loss (for 43 yards). In his career, Wujciak collected 112 total tackles (including 62 solos), 7.5 sacks and 21.5 tackles for a loss, as well as three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, three passes defended and two blocks.

The West Caldwell, N.J., product was a consensus first-team All-ACC performer this season, receiving the nod from the conference's head coaches, writers association, ESPN and Associated Press. This followed his junior season in which he was tabbed to the All-ACC third team.

Bowen, a Villanova, Pa., product, established himself as a starter as an offensive tackle as a senior. This year, the Eagles posted six games in which they ran for at least 195 yards and five games in which they totaled at least 300 yards of offense. Through his career, Bowen appeared in 39 games, seeing time on special teams, tight end and along the offensive line.

Dudeck, a product of Hamilton, N.J., earned the 2016 Scanlan Award, Boston College's highest football honor given to the senior who best embodies the ideals of Tom Scanlan, class of 1920. In 45 career games, he amassed 514 receiving yards on 60 catches, three touchdowns and a career-long, 41-yard reception at Wake Forest in 2014. He also recorded 119 rushing yards on 46 carries, mostly in his freshman campaign, and scored a touchdown on the ground. A member of special teams, he returned three punts for 25 yards and tallied 12 kick returns for 172 yards. Last month, he was selected to the National Football Foundation's Hampshire Society.

Boston College returns to the field to start the 2016 season on Saturday, Sept. 3, when the team travels to Dublin, Ireland, for the 2016 Aer Lingus College Football Classic. The Eagles will face ACC foe Georgia Tech in a conference game at Dublin's Aviva Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 a.m. ET, and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
