BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior Johnny Adams was 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs. He now has 25 hits in the last 17 games and is currently riding a nine-game hit streak, tying a career long, and has reached base in the last 14 games.
- Junior right-handed starter Justin Dunn threw a career-high seven innings, allowing just one run on five hits and three walks. He struck out four and retired the first seven he faced.
- Sophomore Jake Palomaki was 3-for-5 with two runs and a walk. He has now reached base in 37 of the Eagles' 44 games.
- Junior Michael Strem plated a run with double in the third, his 43rd in his career to rank 10th in BC record books. He also had an RBI triple in the eighth and has recorded at least one hit in 12 of the last 18 games.
- Senior Joe Cronin knocked his 47th career double to left in the fifth. He is tied for fifth in BC record books.
- Junior Nick Sciortino was was 1-for-4 with two runs. He has reached base in the last 13 games.
- Senior Jesse Adams picked up the win, throwing a scoreless 10th, allowing just one walk.
KEY PLAYS
- The Eagles held a 7-1 lead going into the eighth, but the Demon Deacons scored six, including four off a grand slam, to tie the game.
- Strem put BC back on top with an RBI triple in the bottom of the inning, but Wake answered with a run in the ninth.
- While the Eagles put two on in the bottom of the ninth, they could not push one across, forcing extras.
- After Adams recorded a quick 10th, senior Gabriel Hernandez led off with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. With one out, Sciortino grounded one to short and Hernandez took off for home. Wake shortstop Johnny Aiello's throw sailed over the catcher's head for the BC win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles struck first, tallying two in the second. Cronin and sophomore Scott Braren reached on four-pitch walks to start the inning and Adams drove one in with a double off the wall in left. With runners on the second and third, sophomore Mitch Bigras chopped on to third to score Braren and give BC a 2-0 lead.
- BC added three run in the third to go up by five. Palomaki led off with a single to center and Strem drove him in with a double to the corner in left. Sciortino wa hit by a pitch to put two. The Demon Deacons went to the pen for RHP John McCarren. After Cronin moved the runners up with a sac hit, Baren plated Strem. Adams grounded one to third to score Braren and reached on a fielding error, but two fly balls kept BC from getting any more.
- Wake got on the board in the fifth as Ben Breazeale led off with a walk and after Dunn got his third K of the game, Breazeale moved up on another base on balls. A fielder's choice advance him to third and he scored on Nate Mondou's single to left. Dunn forced a chopper to short to end the inning.
- BC got the run back in the sixth as senior Logan Hoggarth led off with a double down the right-field line. Bigras moved him to third with a chopper and Hernandez drove him in on a double of his own to left.
- The Demon Deacons tied the game in the eighth with senior RHP John Nicklas on the hill, scoring six. Will Craig led off with a double to left center but Nicklas came back with a fly ball and strikeout looking to get two quick outs. He walked the next batter to put two on and Aiello hit a blooper to left to bring in a run. Two straight walks plated another run and loaded the bases for Mondou. Redshirt sophomore RHP Bobby Skogsbergh entered the game and Mondou hit the first pitch he saw over the right-field wall for a grand slam, tying the game. Skosbergh got the next batter swinging to end the inning.
- The Eagles took the lead back in the bottom of the innint with RHP Donnie Sellers on the hill. Palomaki got on with a single and one down and Strem tripled to right center to drive in the go-ahead run.
- The Deacons tied the game back up in the ninth. Craig reached on a walk and pinch runner Drew Freedman moved to third on a blooper by Gavin Sheets and throwing error by Sciortino. Kevin Conway brought him home with a base hit down the right line. The BC defense came alive as second baseman Palomaki made a diving catch and fired home to keep the game tied and first baseman Bigras caught a line drive and doubled off the runner at first to end the inning.
- BC won the game in the bottom of the 10th as Hernandez doubled to right to start the inning. He moved to third on a wild pitch. With one out and Palomaki on first after drawing a walk, Sciortino grounded on to short. Hernandez raced home and shortstop Aiello's throw sailed over the WF catcher's head to give BC the walk-off win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- It was the second time in 2016 the Eagles walked off on an error. The also earned a walk-off win against Virginia on April 9.
- The Eagles are 3-1 in extra innings this season.
- BC has won eight of its last 12 games.
- It was BC's fourth walk-off win of the season.
- The Eagles notched seven doubles in the game, a season high. The last time they recorded at least seven doubles was when they hit eight at Northeastern on March 23, 2015 in a 22-1 victory.
- The Eagles improved to 15-17 against Wake Forest in the all-time series but 12-5 in Chestnut Hill.
- The Eagles are 23-7 when they score first.
