BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Sophomore Jake Palomaki went 2-for-3 with a walk to bring his four-game total against the Yellow Jackets to 8-for-15 with three walks. He has reached base in 44 of the Eagles' 51 games, including the last 11, and he has a hit in eight of the last nine games. The walk was the 39th of the season, tying for second on BC's single-season list. He holds the record with 46, set last year.
- Senior Logan Hoggarth and junior Johnny Adams also tallied two hits apiece, both going 2-for-4 on the day.
KEY PLAYS
- The Yellow Jackets managed to score a run in the third, fourth and sixth before two home runs broke the game open in the ninth.
- GT starter Brandon Gold got himself out of jams in the third with runners on the corners and the sixth and seventh with bases loaded.
- Gold and closer Matthew Gorst held BC scoreless for ninth innings, combing for six strikeouts and two walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Georgia Tech got on the board in the third, scoring first for the first time in the four meetings between the two teams. With one down, Connor Justus doubled to right and Wade Bailey plated him with a single to center. Senior left-handed starter Jesse Adams came back with a fly out and pop out to end the inning, stranding a runner on second.
- Trevor Craport gave the Jackets a 2-0 lead with a one-out solo shot over the left-field wall in the fourth.
- With junior righty Mike King on the hill, GT took a three-run lead as Tristin English led off with a single through the left side and moved up into scoring position on a one-out wild pitch. Brandt Stallings hit a double to left to score a run.
- The Eagles loaded the bases in the sixth and seventh but could not push across a run. In the sixth, senior Gabriel Hernandez drew a lead-off walk and Palomaki followed with a base hit through the right side. With one down, junior Nick Sciortino was hit by a pitch fill the bases, but a shallow fly ball and a chopper to second squandered BC's scoring chances.
- In the seventh, Hoggarth laced one up the middle with one down and junior pinch hitter Chris Balogh followed with a base hit to left center. With two down, Gorst entered the game and walked Palomaki to load them up. He then got a fly ball to center to end the inning.
- GT went up 6-0 in the ninth with senior RHP John Nicklas on the hill. Matt Gonzalez knocked a one-out solo shot over the wall in left with one down in the inning, but he could not record another out. Kel Johnson singled to left and English launched a homer to left center to give the Jackets the six-run lead. Redshirt sophomore RHP Bobby Skogsbergh came in the game and got a strikeout and grounder to get out of the inning.
