BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior right-hander Justin Dunn tied a career high with six strikeouts over three innings of relief. He allowed just one hit, retiring eight of the nine batters he faced and struck out four in a row.
- Classmate righty Mike King pitched the first three innings, allowed one infield hit and one walk while striking out two. He registered his seventh win of the year. The last BC pitcher to tally seven wins was Kevin Moran in 2010 when he tallied an 8-5 record.
- Sophomore Jake Palomaki led the Eagles with a 3-for-4 day, scoring two runs, driving in two and walking once. He also stole three bases for the third time season season. The second baseman has a hit in the last four games, has reached in the last six games and has reached base in 39 of the Eagles' 46 games this season.
- Senior Joe Cronin doubled in the first to tally the 48th of his career, good to tie for fourth in BC record books.
- Junior Johnny Adams was 1-for-3 with two runs and a walk, extending his career-long hit streak to 11 games, a season long for the Eagles. He now has 28 hits in the last 19 games and has reached base in the last 16 games. His hit streak is tied for 12th in BC record books (dating back to 2005).
- Junior Michael Strem was 1-for-4 with an RBI. He has record at least one hit in 14 of the last 20 games.
- Junior Nick Sciortino was hit by a pitch in the seventh inning. He has reached base in the last 14 games.
KEY PLAYS
- After leading 1-0 for much of the game, the Eagles added two more in the fifth and three more in the seventh.
- With the 7-0 lead in the ninth, freshman RHP Jacob Stevens gave up two in the ninth, but with the bases loaded, he struck out two in a row to end the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles jumped out to an early, 1-0 lead in the first as Palomaki lead off with a single, stole second and advanced to third when catcher Joel Brophy's throw skipped into the outfield. Strem plated him with a single through the left side.
- BC added two more in the fifth to go up by three. Adams started the inning with a base hit and moved into scoring position on a failed pick-off attempt. With two down in the inning, senior Gabriel Hernandez knocked one just fair in left field to score the Eagles' second run. Palomaki followed with a single to right center to bring in Hernandez before a strikeout ended the inning.
- The Eagles added three in the seventh to take a 6-0 lead. Adams drew a walk to start the frame and moved up to second on a wild pitch. With one down, sophomore Mitch Bigras drove him in with a base hit up the middle. He then got himself into scoring position by stealing second. With two outs, Palomaki sent one back up the middle to score Bigras. The Eagles loaded the bases on a walk and hit by pitch and Palomaki was able to score from third on a passed ball. Another walk reloaded the bases but a high chopper to first left them full.
- The Eagles' seventh run came in the eighth as senior Logan Hoggarth legged out an infield single and landed on third after a wild pitch and two walks, loading the bases. He scored on a wild pitch before the end of the inning.
- Niagara posted two in the ninth off Stevens after he tallied one out on a foul fly ball. He loaded the bases on two walks and a single and walked Brophy to give the Purple Eagles their first run of the game. Darian Blanks then singled through the right side to plate another run. Stevens settled in and got back-to-back Ks to end the game.
