Daniels Drafted in Seventh Round by Washington

The Cincinnati native is the eighth Eagle drafted by the Redskins
CHICAGO, Ill. –Boston College's Steven Daniels was chosen in the seventh round by the Washington Redskins in the 2016 NFL Draft on Saturday afternoon. The linebacker was 232nd overall pick and joins former BC defensive back Will Blackmon in the nation's capital.

The three-year starting linebacker was a core member of the 2015 BC defense that was the No. 1 in the nation, allowing just 254.3 yards/game. The Eagles also ranked first in the country for first downs/game (13.8), tackles for loss/game (9.5) and third-down conversion percentage (21.1%) and second overall for rushing yards/game (83.2 yards) and fourth-down conversion percentage (20%).

Daniels recorded 267 career tackles, including 30 for a loss of 100 yards, in his four-year BC career. In his senior campaign, he garnered All-Atlantic Coast Conference first-team honors from the league's head coaches and second-team honors from the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association. He was also chosen by the Greater Boston Gridiron Club as the George H. "Bulger" Lowe Award winner, given to the most outstanding football player in the New England and collected All-New England honors by area writers. His other accolades included ESPN.com All-ACC, AP All-ACC Second Team, Phil Steele All-ACC Second Team and ProFootballFocus.com All-America.

The Cincinnati, Ohio, native led the Eagles with 82 tackles and his 16 tackles for loss tied for 31st in the nation. He ranked 17th in the ACC for total tackles and seventh for tackles for loss. Daniels tallied a team-high and career-high 12 tackles – including 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack – at Duke on Oct. 3. He also recorded nine tackles, including five solo stops and a sack, with an interception return of 18 yards at No. 5/6 Clemson on Oct. 17. Against Louisville, he notched a career-high and team-high four tackles for a loss of 24 yards and two sacks, tying a career high, to go along with 11 total tackles on Oct. 24. As a junior, Daniels was second on the team with 72 tackles, including 44 solo stops and seven tackles for loss.
