The Eagles Play for the Beanpot Championship

BC takes on NU for the 19th time
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College baseball team will take on Northeastern in the 26th Beanpot Championship on Wednesday at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough, Mass. The Eagles (18-14) will be looking for their 12th title against the Huskies (19-15).

Harvard and Massachusetts will play in the consolation game at 2:30 p.m. The Eagles and Huskies will start after the conclusion of the first game. Tickets will be $10 (general admission to both games) and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to The Frates ALS Research and Support Fund.

BC defeated Massachusetts, 2-1, on April 13 at Eddie Pellagrini Diamond at Commander Shea Field in Chestnut Hill, Mass., to advance to the championship game. Freshman Thomas Lane threw 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out three. With the game tied at one in the eighth, senior Joe Cronin plated junior Michael Strem - who had the Eagles' other RBI with a sac fly - to for the go-ahead run. Freshman John Witkowski picked up his first career with, throwing a 123 top of the eighth with one K and senior Jesse Adams got the save with a perfect ninth with one K. The Huskies will be the home team, determined by a coin flip.

The Eagles lead all four teams with 11 championship titles. The last one came last year in 2015. BC holds a 34-16-1 in the Beanpot, which dates back to 1990. The Eagles hold a 12-6 record over the Huskies in the Beanpot. The last meeting came in the consolation game in 2014 when NU won, 4-3. BC took the title from the Huskies in 2011 with a 6-1 victory. The two teams have only faced off twice in the championship - in 1992 and 2004 - with the Eagles winning both games.

Northeastern beat Harvard, 3-2, on April 6 to make it to the title game. RHP Will Jahn collected his first win of the year, going 3.2 innings of relief and RHP Mike Fitzgerald earned the save, throwing the ninth.
