NEWTON, Mass. – Boston College held off a late second half surge by the Hokies of Virginia Tech on Saturday to earn their second conference win of the season, 15-10, at the annual Red Bandana game, held on the Newton Campus Lacrosse Field.

BC HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- During halftime of today's game, the Boston College Eagles honored the memory of Welles Remy Crowther, a former BC lacrosse player from the class of 1999, whose life was lost on September 11, 2001. The team wore red bandanas during the game while Kate Rich was honored with his No. 19 jersey, becoming the fourth recipient to wear the jersey, honoring Welles' courage, bravery, selflessness and strength.
- Mary Kensinger made her first start of the season, recording a career high two draw controls in the winning effort.
- With a game high seven points, senior captain Sarah Mannelly moved into fourth place in the program's career goal record on Saturday. Now with 166 career netters, the New Canaan, Conn. native surpassed Lauren Costello's 164 goal mark set between 2007 and 2010.
- Junior captain Tess Chandler set a new career high with six draw controls. The Hopkinton, Mass. native previously had a career high of four DC's, set three times in 53 career games.
- Caroline Margolis matched a season high with four draw controls, a mark she has tallied four times this season.
- Senior Kate Rich, wearing the honorary No. 19, registered a career high three points with a goal and two assist.
TURNING POINT
- After Virginia Tech brought the score within two nearing the midway point of the second half, the trio of Caroline Margolis, Sarah Mannelly and Kenzie Kent tallied three straight goals to pull away in the final minutes and secure the team's second conference win of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Boston College went up 3-0 in the first seven minutes after a pair of unassisted goals from Tess Chandler and Margolis were followed by Mannelly's 27th goal of the season at 23:26 on a feed from Margolis.
- After VT got on the board, Kate Rich recorded her fifth goal of the season to help the Eagles regain their three goal lead.
- Following a Virginia Tech goal that cut their deficit to two, Kate Weeks notched a hat trick in a span of four minutes while Kent also got on the board to quickly extend the Eagles lead to 8-2 with just over 13 minutes remaining in the first half.
- Sarah Mannelly added a goal at 9:54 to round out the maroon and gold's first half scoring to go into the break with the 9-5 advantage.
- The two squads exchanged goals to open the second half as the first goal, scored by Tech, was matched by Mannelly on a feed from Rich. Mannelly added a free position goal following another score from the Hokies.
- After the Hokies netted two straight to cut the Eagles lead to two, BC fired off three straight goals from Margolis, Mannelly and Kent as the game entered the final minutes. Margolis' and Mannelly's were both unassisted while Kent's came from Mannelly after a previous Eagles shot had gone wide.
- Despite a late second half, free position tally from Virginia Tech that cut the Eagles lead to four, Kara Magley was able to tally her fifth goal of the season on a helper from Emma Schurr to push the lead back to five, a score that go final.
- Lauren Daly entered the game in the second half, making her third appearance of the season, to record two saves and two ground balls.
- With the win, the Eagles ensured a .500 regular season record for the eighth straight, a program record.

- The Eagles have two games left on the schedule. Following a midweek game at Harvard on April 20, which can be seen on ESPN3, the team will participate in its final regular season match of the year against Johns Hopkins, at home on April 23. In that final game, the team will honor its six seniors who will be graduating in May from Boston College.
