KEY PLAYS
The Eagles scored two in the fourth and added runs in the fifth and sixth to take a 6-0 lead. BC did not look back with Adams dominating on the mound.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles were the first to break the scoreless tie, capitalizing on Buckeye errors to score two in the fourth. Adams led off with a double down the left-field line and advanced to third when second baseman Nick Sergakis could not handle pitcher John Havird's pickoff attempt. Strem drove him in with a single up the middle. With runners on second and third and two outs, senior Logan Hoggarth chopped one to third, which Brady Cherry misplayed, allowing another BC run to come in.
- Adams worked himself out of a jam in the fifth after allowing his first base runners. He loaded the bases with one down on two hit batters and a walk but got a liner to left, which Hoggarth fired in to avoid the tag up and left the bags loaded with three straight strikes.
- Strem plated another in the fifth to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead. With Adams on second and two down, he laced one to center for his second RBI of the day.
- The Eagles added three in the sixth to take a six-run lead. With right-hand reliever Austin Woodby on the hill, freshman Gian Martellini and Hoggarth started the inning with back-to-back base hits and senior Nick Sciortino moved them into scoring position with a sac bunt. Freshman Jake Alu, pinch running for Martellini, scored on a wild pitch before pinch hitter sophomore Mitch Bigras drew a walk. Palomaki cleared the bases with a double to left.
- The Buckeyes got on the board with a run in the seventh. Adams gave up his only hit of the day on a ground-rule double over the right-field fence to Sergakis. Sophomore RHP Brian Rapp entered the game and quickly got a strikeout for the first out. Sergakis advanced to third on a balk and scored when Cherry grounded one to short. Adams could not field the ball cleanly but the Eagles turned a 463 double play to end the inning.
- OSU put a run on the board in the eighth to make it a 6-2 game. After Rapp started the inning with a strikeout looking, he put two on on a bunt single and a walk. A balk moved both runners into scoring position and a groundout to third plated the runner.
- Junior RHP Justin Dunn finished the game, pitching the ninth. He struck out the first two batters he faced, but the second one reached on a passed ball. The Eagles turned their third double play of the game to earn the victory.
