BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Freshman right-handed starter Jacob Stevens did not allow a hit through six innings, striking out a career-high nine and retiring 18 of the 21 batters faced in his third outing of the season. He walked just one and hit two batters, throwing 94 pitches on the day in the no decision.
- On a 1-for-4 day, junior Johnny Adams extended his on-base streak to 14 games.
- The BC pitching staff did not allow a NDSU hit until the eighth inning.
KEY PLAYS
- Leading 1-0, the Eagles had two on with two outs in the bottom of the eighth. Freshman left-hand reliever Dan Metzdorf came in and walked two in a row to tie the game at one.
- Freshman RHP John Witkowski came on in relief and surrendered a bases-clearing double to give North Dakota State a 4-1 lead.
- While the Eagles managed to score one in the ninth, they could not muster anymore and fell for the first time in 2016.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles took an early, 1-0 lead in their first at bat. Sophomore Jake Palomaki led off with a bunt single and advanced to second on an overthrow by Mason Pierzchalski. Adams moved him to third with a groundout and junior Michael Strem plated him with a grounder to third.
- BC held the one-run lead until the eighth as Stevens was dominant. Redshirt sophomore Bobby Skogsbergh pitched a 123 seventh, but with one down in the inning, he hit a batter and surrendered a base hit to put two on. The righty returned with a strikeout looking for the second out and Metzdorf came in to face the left-handed Alec Abercrombie. Abercrombie drew a full-count walk to load the bases and Brayden Resch followed with the same to bring in a run and tie the game at one. Pierzchalski hit new pitcher Witkowski's first pitch to deep centerfield to score three runs and was thrown out as he tried to stretch his double into a triple.
- With one out in the ninth, junior Chris Balogh was hit by a pitch and moved into scoring position on a ball in the dirt. Senior Stephen Sauter singled to right to put runners on the corners and sophomore pinch hitter Mitch Bigras hit a sac fly to deep right field to plate BC's second run. Freshman pinch hitter Gian Martellini launched one to left center, but it was caught to end the game and hand BC its first loss.
