GAME NOTES:
- In the latest college lacrosse polls, BC moved up one spot in the IWLCA poll to 14 while they remained at 14 in the Nike/LacrosseMagazine poll. The Eagles are one of seven ACC teams in the conference listed in the top-20 of both polls. Â Entering the week, senior Molly Erdle was tied for fifth in the conference, averaging 1.75 caused turnovers per game while junior GK Zoe Ochoa was fourth in conference in saves per game with 6.75. Caroline Margolis was tied for ninth in the ACC with 1.25 assists per game. Erdle tallied two caused turnovers while Margolis added an assist in the midweek game vs. UMass.Â
- Navy enters the game riding a three game winning streak after winning five of its first six games. The only loss for the Midshipmen came vs. Duke, 18-9, on February 12. The Midshipmen's leading scorer, Jenna Collins, has tallied 20 points (15 G, 5 A) while recording 12 ground balls, 16 draw controls, and seven caused turnovers. They also recorded a win over ACC foe Virginia Tech, 12-6, to open the season. Navy's head coach, Cindy Timchal, enters her 34th year as a head coach (ninth at Navy), and is the NCAA's all-time leader in career wins (460) for any division, in men's or women's college lacrosse. Â Â
- In Wednesday's home opener, BC overcame an early 3-0 deficit to defeat Massachusetts 9-8. Sarah Mannelly tallied a season high six points on three goals and three assists. One of three BC Tewaaraton Award Watch List members, Mannelly is now three points shy of becoming the seventh player in program history to amass 200 career points and six goals shy of becoming the sixth player to record 150 career goals.
- Sarah Mannelly moved into sole possession of fifth place in the Eagles all-time assists record with her first of three tallies against UMass. She had surpassed Kristin Igoe (2008-12), who totaled 50 assists over five years.Â
- Junior goalkeeper Zoe Ochoa moved into ninth place all-time in the program's career saves record with her 169th career save, which she tallied in the second half against UMass. With the feat, she surpassed Valerie Leuchs' record of 168 career saves, which was set during the 1999-00 seasons. She will now have her eyes set on the eighth place in the record book, which is held by Rachel Zeller's 218 career saves between 2001 and 2002.
- On Tuesday, February 23, three Eagles were among 18 female student athletes from the ACC to be named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, a list of the top-50 women's lacrosse players from across the NCAA. Sarah Mannelly, Caroline Margolis and Kenzie Kent were all included on the list. Mannelly and Margolis have both had positive impacts to start off the season, while Kenzie Kent has yet to join the team due to her committment to the women's ice hockey team. At 36-0-0, Kent's hockey team is ranked no. 1 in the country. She has tallied 14 goals and 23 assists on the season, including a goal and an assist against Maine last weekend to advance to the Hockey East semifinals, taking place March 4-6. Â She will join her lacrosse teammates at the conclusion of the ice hockey season.Â
- On Wednesday, February 17, when the Eagles defeated Holy Cross 19-6, history was made as Caroline Margolis became the 20th player in program history to record 100 career points, a feat she accomplished with her first half goal.Â
- Freshman Sam Apuzzo recorded her ninth goal of the season in Wednesday's non-conference win over UMass. The West Babylon, N.Y. native continues to show dominance early in her collegiate career. She has 10 points through five games, including two games with at least three goals. In the Holy Cross game, she tallied eight draw controls, which were the fifth most ever in a single game for a BC player. She was also the first Eagle to record a hat trick in her first collegiate game since Sarah Mannelly did so in 2013.Â
- Coach Acacia Walker is five wins away from tallying her 50th career win as head coach of the Eagles. Her current .692 winning percentage is the highest among BC coaches all time, dating back to the first year as a varsity program in 1992
LAST TIME OUT:
- Boston College didn't let a 3-0 deficit in the first 11 minutes of the home opener against Massachusetts get the best of them as they fought back to beat the Minutewomen, 9-8, behind Sarah Mannelly's season-high six points.Â
NEXT UP:
- While most of the Boston College population will head out for spring break next week, the Eagles will travel to Florida for the week off from classes. The Maroon and Gold have a pair of games slated in the sunshine state. They first face off against the third-ranked Florida Gators next Friday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m., before closing out the weekend at Stetson on Sunday, March 13. Â
