Mannelly tallies third career ACC nod while Arsenault earns first
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Boston College lacrosse players Sarah Mannelly and Dempsey Arsenault were both named ACC Players of the Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
The accolades are the result of the Eagles dominant performance over third ranked Syracuse, 13-8, on Saturday at the Eagles home turf in Newton, Mass., which earned the team its first conference win of the season.
Mannelly garnered offensive player accolades while Arsenault was recognized for her defensive skills as the Eagles held 'Cuse to a season low eight goals this season.
A native of New Canann, Conn., Mannelly continued her successful senior campaign, tallying six points on four goals and two assists to add to her team-leading 31 points this season. Her game high six points and three draw controls against the Orange each matched personal season bests while her nine shots were the most she had recorded in a game this season. This is the second time the midfielder has earned ACC offensive player of the Week and third time overall she has received a weekly conference award.
Defensively, freshman Dempsey Arsenault received her first career ACC Player of the Week recognition after holding No. 3 Syracuse, who entered the game averaging nearly 14 goals per game and had the nation's 10th best scoring offense, to a season low eight goals. Arsenault's role in defending Cuse's Kayla Treanor, who prior to Saturday had the ninth most points amongst all Division I players, was critical in the victory, as she held the senior attack and former Tewaaraton finalist to only two points, the fewest she has had in a conference game since April 11 of last season. The Hampton, N.H. native recorded two ground balls and two draw controls in the winning effort.
Boston College returns to action this Saturday, March 26, when they host No. 3 North Carolina at the Newton Campus Lacrosse Field. Opening draw is scheduled for 1 pm.
