Rowing Begins Spring Season With Philly Doubleheader

Eagles take on Saint Joseph's and UPenn in morning event before facing Temple in second session. All events on Schuylkill River
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -Â The Boston College rowing team kicks off its spring season on Saturday when it travels to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for a doubleheader. In the morning events, BC will meet Saint Joseph's and the University of Pennsylvania on the Schuylkill River course before following up in the afternoon with a head-to-head match with Temple. Saint Joseph's, of the Atlantic 10 conference, faced Philadelphia rival Temple in an exhibition race last weekend while Penn, of the Ivy League, also sees its first competitive action since November, when the team participated in the Rivanna Romp in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The Eagles, who are also seeing their first competitive action since the Foot of the Charles Regatta on November 14, begin the first of nine events spread throughout the spring, all leading up to the ACC Championships, held once again at Lake Hartwell in Clemson, South Carolina May 13-14.
Saturday's events will begin at 9:30 will with the second varsity four event, in which BC has two entries. Â The 3rd Varsity Eight, Varsity Four, Second Varsity Eight, and Varsity Eight events will follow in the morning events against Saint Joseph's and Penn.Â

Following a midmorning break, the Eagles take on Temple in the afternoon session, scheduled to begin at 12:40. The maroon and gold will compete in six events against the Owls.

BC recently completed a spring break trip to Jacksonville, Fla. last week after previously participating in its winter training trip in early January to Vero Beach, Fla.Â
The last time the maroon and gold competed on the Schuylkill River was for the March 2015 Jesuit Invitational, in which the Eagles were victorious in the Second Varsity Eight, Third Varsity Eight, Fourth Varsity Eight and the Varsity Four events. In that event, they competed against the likes of Saint Joseph's, Drexel, Villanova and LaSalle.Â
BC will keep the same lineups for both of Saturday's races.Â
