Eagles Rowing Sweeps Temple in Second Half of Saturday Doubleheader

Eagles also tally four second-place finishes against Penn and Saint Joseph's on Saturday morning
PHILADELPHIA – The Eagles rowing team tallied a first place finish, four second place finishes and one third in the first half of their doubleheader on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia against the University of Pennsylvania and Saint Joseph's.
The Eagles top finish came in the Third Varsity Eight event in which BC defeated its only competitor, Saint Joseph's, by nearly 10 seconds. The team placed at 7:04.6, ahead of their opponent, who crossed at 7:14.39. Competing for the maroon and gold in Saturday's 3V8 race was Lauren Michelson (cox), Elizabeth Calder (stroke), Gretchen Ray, Haley Bower, Sophie Spencer, Victoria Mulkern, Jacqueline McDonnell, Megan Lydon and Suzanne Schultz (bow).
BC took second place against Penn and Saint Joseph's in the Varsity Four, Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Four and Second Varsity Eight events.
In the Varsity Four, BC finished at 7:32.74, five seconds behind the winning boat from Penn. Competing in the V4 for the Eagles was Amanda Bakke (cox), Hilary Gould (stroke), Caitlain McDonald, Paige Vignone and Christy Verhoog (bow).
With times of 7:39.33 and 7:44.73, the Eagles took second and third in the second varsity four event. The "A" team of Ola Zaworski (cox), Laura Mazziotta (stroke), Claire Mason, Jamie Bange, Olivia Rogus (bow) finished second while the counterpart "B" team of Lauren Hansford (cox), Grace Brzozowski (stroke), Morgan Rann, Jessica Zettlemoyer and Jillian Raplee (bow) took third.
BC also placed second in the Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight events, respectively, trailing only Penn in both events. In the main event, the team of Anna Tenzinger (cox), Caroline Henry (stroke), Makenzy Brown, Megan Carney, Catherine Goldberg, Grace Grunau, Madison Cann, Michaela Jaffe and Caitlin Yaccarino (bow) finished at 6:27.90, seven seconds behind Penn's team. In the second Varsity Eight event, Kylie Hasegawa (cox), Amanda Jenkins (stroke), Michela Karrash, Kelly Bungard, Haley Clarke, Katherine DeVlieger, Claire Orzel, Jessica Ferrante
And Elizabeth McKernan (bow) placed second with a time of 6:49.15, 12 seconds behind Penn's 6:37.09 finish.

In the second half of Saturday's doubleheader in Philadelphia, Boston College swept all six events to conclude the 2016 spring season opener.
In the Varsity Eight, BC finished first with a time of 6:41.0, ahead of Temple's time of 6:47.12. They finished at least six seconds ahead of their opponent in the Second Varsity Eight, Third Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Four and Third Varsity Four. The only event where the final result was less than six seconds was the Varsity Four event, in which the Eagles beat the Owls by a mere four seconds, 7:36.50 to 7:40.41

Boston College will return to action next week with a dual meet with rival Boston University on the home Charles River course in Boston.
