BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Freshman Mariella Fasoula netted 19 points and pulled down six rebounds.
- Senior Kelly Hughes contributed 12 points, adding six rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles opened up hot, scoring on each of its first three possessions on their way to a 9-2 run over the first four minutes of the quarter. After the Hurricanes got on the board, Boston College ran off another run, eventually taking a 21-13 lead after one. Mariella Fasoula (six points) and Kelly Hughes (five points) paced the Eagles in the quarter.
- Poor shooting played a starring role in the beginning of the second, as Boston College and Miami combined for just two points over opening 4:10 of the quarter—a bucket by the Hurricanes' Jessica Thomas. The Eagles would get their first bucket 20 seconds later courtesy of Fasoula followed by another from Ella Awobajo only 15 seconds later. However, Boston College would go scoreless over the next five minutes as the Hurricanes used a 10-0 run—capped off by an Adrienne Motley three—to take its first lead of the game with 1:01 remaining in the half. The Eagles would finish the quarter strong, as Fasoula added four more in the final 30 seconds to stake the team to a 29-27 lead at the break despite holding Miami to 30 percent shooting.
- The Hurricanes and Eagles traded buckets for much of the third quarter. Led by five points from Motley, Miami then broke out on a 9-2 run capped by a three-point shot from Laura Cornelius with 1:41 remaining to help the team to a 47-40 advantage after three.
- Boston College cut the lead to one backed by an 8-2 run over the opening 3:26 of the quarter. However, Cornelius stopped the bleeding for the Hurricanes with a three-point shot with 6:07 remaining, sparking a 9-3 run that proved to be too much for the Eagles to overcome.
