
Adragna Named Most Valuable ACC Fencer

The senior epee earned silver at the ACC Championships
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Boston College senior fencer Olivia Adragna was named the women's ACC Championship Most Valuable Fencer following this past weekend's championship events held at the University of Notre Dame. The award was voted on by the league's four coaches.Â
The Malverne, N.Y. native earned a silver medal in the epee event, falling to Notre Dame's Catherine Lee 11-15 in the title event on Sunday. With the second place finish, she automatically earns All-ACC honors, as the top two finishers in each weapon receive the accolades.Â
Adragna was the only Eagle to place in the top-three of any event this week, as Boston College was held winless as a team in its three events. The maroon and gold fell to Notre Dame in the opening round, 6-21, to Duke in the second round, 7-20, and to North Carolina in the third round, 10-17. Adragna's second place finish in the epee event earns her All-ACC honors. It was also the second year in a row she medaled at the conference fencing championship.

The team will turn its attention to the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships, held in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on Sunday, March 13. Â Â

- Junior Renee Bichette was seeded first out of the individual women's epee pool round with a record of 13-2. Bichette finished fourth after dropping bouts to Catherine Lee of Notre Dame in the semi-final and Madeline Antekeier of Notre Dame in the bronze medal bout.
- Senior Peter Wetzel, seeded 2nd out of the pool round with a record of 11-4 finished fourth in men's epee.
- Strong individual performances were also contributed by MacGregor Mooney and Cam Mayer, 7th in men's epee and men's foil respectively.
- Jackie Bai submitted a break out performance in women's sabre, going 5-4 in the team round on Saturday and then 10-5 in the individual pool on Sunday to place 6th.
