December 25, 2016 | Football
DETROIT - The Boston College football continues its preparation for the 2016 Quick Lane Bowl against Maryland (Dec. 26, 2:30 p.m., ESPN). but the Eagles took some time off the field to lend a hand in the city of Detroit.Â
As part of the bowl events, BC student-athletes, coaches, staff and families visited Gleaners Community Food Bank and packaged produce to be distributed through the school-based mobile pantry. Julie Beamer, Gleaners' chief operating officer, explained that over 300,000 children in the Southeastern Michigan area qualify for free or reduced-priced lunch and may not have a way to eat over the weekend or school holiday breaks.
The Eagles packed over 27,750 pounds of potatoes and apples while at Gleaners to be part of the package families receive.
