December 19, 2016 | Sailing
Chestnut Hill, Mass. -
US Sailing announced eight men and six women named to a short list of nominees for the 2016 Rolex Yachtsman and Yachtswoman of the Year awards. In the list of 14 sailors, Boston College has two former sailors and one current in the running for the award.
Former Eagle of the Year Annie Haeger and her teammate Briana Provancha are on the list as well as current Eagles senior Erika Reineke.
Haeger and Provancha were 470 South American Championship Silver Medalists. The tandem also competed in the 2016 Olympics in Rio. Reineke won her fourth Women's College Sailing Singlehanded National Championship in November.
The nominees will be reviewed by a panel of noted sailing journalists who discuss the merits of each sailor's racing results before voting to determine US Sailing's 2016 Rolex Yachtsman and Yachtswoman of the Year. The winners will be announced in January and honored on Thursday, March 2, 2016, during a luncheon at the New York Yacht Club in Manhattan, when they will be presented with specially-engraved Rolex timepieces.
