Red Sox’s Dave Dombrowski will be featured guest speaker
Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The 25th Annual Baseball Night In Boston is scheduled for Thursday, January 26 from 6-9 p.m. at Fenway Park's State Street Pavilion. The event is the single largest fundraiser for the Boston College baseball program.
Â
"Baseball Night is vital to our program as the proceeds significantly contribute to the success of the BC baseball team competing in the prestigious Atlantic Coast Conference," said head coach Mike Gambino. "All the contributions allow us to develop our players in the classroom, on the baseball field and as 'Men for Others.' We are excited have Mr. Dombrowski speak to our guests and student-athletes this year. He has a great wealth of knowledge and inside look into the baseball world."
Â
Dave Dombrowski will be the featured guest speaker at this year's event. He was hired as the Red Sox's president of baseball operations in August 2015 after serving as the Detroit Tigers' general manager for 14 years. He has worked in professional baseball for almost 40 years. He helped the Red Sox to a first-place finish in the American League East division and clinch a playoff spot for the first time in three years. The Tigers made the playoffs five times and won two pennants under Dombrowski, between 2002-15. He served as the Florida Marlins' GM before Detroit, helping them to the 1997 World Series. Before that, Dombrowski was the general manager for the Montreal Expos, from 1988-91. He began his career with the Chicago White Sox in 1978 as an administrative assistant and advanced to assistant to the GM by 1986.
Â
Proceeds help to defray the team's early-season trips to the south which is vital to the team's preparation. The funds raised also contribute to annual operating expenses including recruiting, equipment and scholarships.
Â
There are several ways to support the success of the event. The first is by purchasing tickets or a sponsorship. Independent financial contributions, along with auction item donations, are also essential to the evening. Donated items such as tickets to sporting or non-sporting events, autographed balls, pictures and jerseys, along with many other items will be auctioned off the night of the event.
Â
Former players help current team members by participating in a class gift. Graduating classes can come together to make one single donation to the baseball program.
Â
Space is limited to 250 guests and tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. They will cost $150 until Dec. 31 and increase to $175 on Jan. 1. If supporters purchase tickets before Dec. 31, they have the option to add an Under Armour 2016 NCAA Baseball Tournament quarter-zip shirt for $200 per ticket.
