HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
The Eagles opened up with a 3-0 lead, but the Hokies answered right away with six straight points of their own to lead 6-4. The Hokies tacked on a few more to extend their lead to 12-7, forcing a BC timeout. The Maroon and Gold won three straight after the break, but Virginia Tech countered to re-extend its lead to 14-10. The Eagles did not give up and used a Balido kill to level the score at 17, forcing a Hokie timeout. Virginia Tech embarked on a 4-1 run after the timeout to retake the lead on an ace, 21-18, forcing the Eagles to call their second timeout. BC couldn't cut into the lead, and the Hokies won the set, 25-21.
Set 2
The teams opened the set level, as neither team led by more than two points in the early going. The Eagles saw a 4-0 run halted after taking 12-10 lead, and the Hokies drew even again at 12 all. After Virginia Tech pulled slightly ahead at 14-13, the Eagles called their first timeout. The teams kept exchanging points until the Hokies pulled away with a 7-1 run, giving them a 24-18 lead. BC fended off three set points, but the Hokies hung on to win 25-21.
Set 3
BC led 2-1, but the Hokies responded with five straight points to lead 6-2. The Eagles clawed their way back to draw even at 7 following a McKenna Goss kill. The teams went back and forth for a few points until Virginia Tech regrouped to take the lead at 12-9 following four straight points. Later, another run of 7-0 gave the Hokies a 20-11 lead. The Eagles couldn't overcome an 8 point deficit, and dropped the set 25-20.
