HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
Miami drew first blood by taking a 7-5 lead on an Anna Haak ace. The Eagles countered with three straight points to retake the lead at 8-7, and the teams went back and forth until the Hurricanes reestablished a two point lead at 12-10 following a 3-0 run of their own. The Eagles were forced to take two quick timeouts after Miami grained leads of 16-13 and 19-14, and couldn't fight back against five Miami service aces and a 9-1 run, ultimately dropping the set 25-15.
Set 2
The Eagles took the first point of the set, but the Hurricanes countered with a 5-0 run, forcing BC to call an early timeout. The Maroon and Gold were able to cut the lead back down to two at 6-4 following a Jill Strockis service ace, but the Hurricanes won the next three points to grab a 5-point lead at 9-4. The Eagles fought back with a 4-1 run to cut the score to 10-8, forcing a Miami timeout, then managed to draw even at 13 all. The Hurricanes reclaimed the lead at 19-16 which forced BC to take its second timeout. Again, the Maroon and Gold couldn't cut into the Hurricane lead and fell, 25-21.
Set 3
Miami took the early 5-2 lead but the Eagles retaliated to pull ahead, 7-6. After Miami won the next point to tie it up at 7 all, the Eagles used one West and two Goss kills to grab a 10-7 lead, forcing the Hurricanes to call timeout. After the break, Miami mustered a 4-1 run, tying the score at 11. The Maroon and Gold pulled ahead after that, 19-15, with the help of a Madisen Lydon ace, at which point the Hurricanes called their second timeout. Miami came back to cut the lead to three at 20-17, and the Eagles then called a timeout of their own. The Hurricanes wouldn't go away, getting within one at 22-21, then fended off two BC match points, but the Eagles hung on to close out a 25-23 victory.
Set 4
Three attack errors by the Eagles gave Miami a 3-0 lead to open the set, who then extended the lead to 7-1, causing the Maroon and Gold to call timeout. The Hurricanes kept tacking on to their advantage from there, leading 14-6 at the next called BC timeout. BC couldn't mount a rally and dropped the set, 25-14.
