November 10, 2016 | Baseball
Clinics run by BC coaches with help from other Northeast coaches
The Boston College baseball team will hold its annual holiday prospect clinic Dec. 27-30 in the Bubble on the Boston College campus for players 13 years and older. The sessions will be taught by the BC coaching staff and players, as well as other New England college coaches.
Â
The Eagles are also offering a one-day youth clinic for 6-12 years olds (3-6 p.m.) and a prospect hitting clinic (6-8 p.m.) on Dec. 17.Â

Â
All clinics offer a very unique opportunity for players to continue to improve their skills during the winter. The Bubble covers entire football playing surface at Alumni Stadium and allows players to take advantage of over 120 yards of open space, including four full-length batting cages and space to set up two regulation size diamonds.Â
Â
The four-day prospect gives players looking to advance to the next level the chance to work with college coaches and players.
Â
"Our entire clinic is centered on teaching and instructing each and every one of our campers to help them reach their full potential as a baseball player," head coach Mike Gambino said. "I believe we have some of the top college baseball coaches in the Northeast instructing, which gives campers a chance to showcase their talent and improve their game.
Â
"In the last few years, we have had representatives from over 30 different colleges attend our clinic, giving campers a chance to work with coaches from every level each night of the clinic. More than a third of the players on our current roster attended one our clinics. Players will have a chance be seen and recruited by the coaches in attendance."
Â
Pitching instruction will be offered each session and pitchers will be take part in a progression of drills that include but not limited to fielding practice, arm care, pre- and post-game routines and flat-ground work. Each player will have a chance to a light throw a bullpen with a college coach instructing. Pitchers do not throw to hitters as it is paramount to focus on the health of the pitchers' arms. Â
Â
Catchers will work with a college coach to cover all the important skills needed to catch at a higher level. Each night, catchers will do drill work, throw to bases and receive instruction while catching in the bullpen sessions. Catchers also take part in the offensive rotations.
Â
Position players will work out through a series of both offensive and defensive stations focusing on different skills at each. Infielders will work on fundamental skills each night and move to a full 90-foot diamond workout. As the clinic progresses, each player will have a chance to move around the infield and work with different college coaches. The coaches will work though a progression of drills touching on all the fundamentals of infield play. The outfield station will instruct each player on the proper throwing mechanic from the outfield as well as the fundamentals of fielding groundballs and fly balls.  Â
Â
Acceptance into a session will be on a first-come, first-served basis and a confirmation e-mail will be sent once the application and payment are received. All four nights of the clinic sold out last year.
Â
"This clinic has sold out each of the last three years and I believe with staff we have coming in this year, it will be no different," Gambino said.Â
