HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
Neither team established a substantial lead until the Eagles won four straight to take a 10-7 lead, forcing Wake to call timeout. The Eagles used a block assist from Skold and freshman Cat Balido to extend the lead to 12-8, then Wake burned its second timeout at 13-8. The Deacs fought back to get within three at 21-18, forcing BC to call timeout. The Deacs got within one at 23-22, but the Maroon and Gold hung on to take the 25-22 victory.
Set 2
The teams were even again from the start, but two ball handling errors allowed BC to take a slim 13-11 lead, forcing Wake to call timeout. From there, the Eagles used back-to-back kills from Topor and McKenna Goss to take an 18-14 lead that forced the Deacs to take their second timeout. Wake Forest came back to get within one at 22-21, forcing the Eagles to call a timeout of their own. BC again held its own for a 25-23 victory.
Set 3
The Demon Deacons opened up the set winning the first five points, forcing an early BC timeout. Wake added on four more to lead 9-0, causing the Eagles to call timeout again. BC broke up Wake's run at 10-0, but the Maroon and Gold couldn't find any momentum in the set, as a red card on a delay of game awarded the Deacs a point to lead 16-3. Wake Forest won the set 25-12.
Set 4
Wake pulled ahead 9-6, but the Eagles soon embarked on a 7-0 run to take a 15-10 lead. The Deacs answered with a 5-1 run of their own to get within one at 16-15, forcing BC to call timeout. The Maroon and Gold hung on to its lead in a thriller fourth set to earn the victory, 25-22.
