HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
Syracuse pulled ahead with a 4-0 run to lead 8-4, but BC countered with a 5-0 run that featured two service aces from Natalie Canulli to take a slim lead of 9-8. From there, neither team led by more than two points again for the remainder of the set. After 17 ties and 6 lead changes, the Eagles won the set, 26-24, on a Strockis kill.
Set 2
The Orange grabbed a 10-6 lead after winning four straight points to break a tie at 6. The Eagles fought back to get within one at 11-10, but Syracuse again extended its lead to three at 16-13. BC clawed its way back to draw even at 18, but the Orange won the next two points to lead 20-18, forcing the Eagles to call timeout. The Maroon and Gold retook the lead, 21-20, after a 3-0 run that forced Syracuse to call timeout. BC closed out the set from there, winning 25-23.
Set 3
Like the opener, the Orange broke an early 4-4 tie by embarking on a 4-0 run to take an 8-4 lead. BC got within three at 11-8 following a Syracuse service error, but the Orange extended their lead to 16-10, forcing the Maroon and Gold to call timeout. The Eagles cut into the Syracuse lead by getting within three again at 17-13, but had to take a timeout after Syracuse re-extended the lead to six at 20-14. The Orange didn't falter and won the set 25-19.
Set 4
The Eagles retook the momentum at the start of the set after two kills from Balido to put her kills tally into double digits for the fourth straight match. Two back-to-back kills from Topor gave the Eagles a four point lead at 12-8, forcing a Syracuse timeout. After the ultimate BC 5-0 run, the Eagles led 15-8. The Orange answered with a 7-0 run of their own to draw even at 16, forcing a BC timeout. After BC won all three points after the timeout to reclaim the lead, 19-16, Syracuse called its second timeout. The Orange got within one at 22-21, but BC earned three match points after taking a 24-21 lead. Syracuse fended off two match points, but a service error on the third match point gave the Eagles the 25-23 victory.
