Eagles claim come-from-behind win against crosstown rival Harvard
BOSTON – The No. 48 Boston College women's tennis team came from behind to claim to a 4-3 win at Harvard in a non-conference dual match on Saturday afternoon at the Murr Tennis Center.
Â
After taking the doubles point, BC fell behind 3-1 with a trio of singles losses. However, Asiya Dair keyed the comeback with a straight-set win at the No. 2 position – over No. 125 Nikki Kallenberg – before Katya Vasilyev took a three-set win in the No. 3 position after dropping the first set in a tie-breaker.
Â
Jennifer Ren won the match for the Eagles with her own three-set win – also including an unsuccessful first-set tie-breaker – in the No. 5 singles spot over Harvard's Sabrina Xiong. During the match, Ren overcame a fall during the run of play to win her match and grab the road victory for the Eagles.
Â
"I'm very proud of our team today," head coach Nigel Bentley said. "We were behind, but we sohwed a lot of fight and determination to come back and defeat a talented Harvard team. We talk a lot about staying calm, believing in yourself and finding a way, and we definitely did that today."
