Chestnut Hill, Mass. -- Boston College senior Mehdi Abdesmad was named Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
The Montreal native returned to the gridiron for the 2015 season opener after missing much of the 2014 and 2013 seasons with a knee injury. After playing sparingly in seven games in the last two years, Abdesmad recorded 1.5 sacks for a loss of nine yards, 2.5 tackles for a loss of 14 yards and finished the day with four tackles, including three solo stops. He helped lead the BC defense to allow just seven rushing yards and 91 total yards in the 24-3 victory over Maine.
The last time BC allowed 91 yards or less was 23 years ago, on Sept. 12, 1992 in a 49-0 victory over Northwestern, allowing just 75 yards and the last time BC allowed single-digit rushing yards was on Sept. 11, 2010 in a 26-13 victory over Kent State, giving up just four.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, Sept. 12 when they host Howard at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3 and WEEI 93.7 FM.
