TURNING POINT
LMU goalkeeper Paul Blanchette punted a ball all the way down to the other box. The ball took a bounce and Grant Sampson lifted a shot over the keeper to provide the lone goal of the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Loyola Marymount's goal came just 1:02 after the opening whistle and it was able to hold on for the 1-0 win.
- Neither side had a great scoring chance in the rest of the first half. The Lions held a 9-5 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge in corners in the first 45.
- Boston College turned it around after halftime and fired off nine shots to LMU's three. It also took four corners while the Lions didn't have one.
- One notable chance was with 30 minutes left when junior Zeiko Lewis got open and fired a shot that was blocked. The deflection went to senior Atobra Ampadu who took another shot, but that too was broken up by a defender.
- With 17:30 remaining, freshman Derek Lyons fed classmate Simon Enstrom who turned and found a lane open to shoot. His low blast was just wide of the left post.
