The game against the Seminoles is being presented by the American Heroes Channel with special recognition of former BC lacrosse player Welles Crowther, "The Man in the Red Bandana,"and his family.
Now an annual tradition at BC, Friday night is the team's Red Bandana Game, and the first 25,000 fans will receive a special red bandana at the gates on their way in to Alumni Stadium as the Eagles will celebrate Crowther's legacy and heroism on 9/11 in the attack on the World Trade Center. Crowther's parents, Jefferson and Allison, will be recognized during the second quarter, along with the American Heroes Channel presenting the first Red Bandanna Award Hero Award to Minneapolis firefighter Jake LaFerriere.
ESPN's flagship program, SportsCenter, will be live on site at The Heights, with the 90-minute broadcast at 6 p.m. set up outside Alumni Stadium's Gate E. The nation will give the taste and spirit of BC football on the special night, and ESPN's Lindsay Czarniak will participate in the Eagle Walk live during the broadcast.
In addition, the Eagles will welcome back members of the 2005 football team -- including former head coach Tom O'Brien -- to mark the 10th anniversary of Boston College's inaugural game in the Atlantic Coast Conference, also against Florida State.
Two BC Athletics alumni who have made names for themselves in the media industry -- former quarterback and current ESPN football analyst Tim Hasselbeck '00 and former softball outfielder and current "Fox & Friends" host Elisabeth (Filarski) `99 Hasselbeck -- will also be recognized.
In conjunction with a visit by the Steering Committee of the 2016 Aer Lingus Classic, the evening will also have an Irish flair. Irish step dancers and bagpipers will welcome fans into Alumni Stadium at Gate E, while famed Irish tenor Ronan Tynan will sing "God Bless America" at the end of the third quarter. The Aer Lingus Classic ambassadors will also offer a special message to Eagle fans during the game.
Partners of BC Athletics also have special events planned for fans. Papa Gino's will stage a pizza-eating contest at halftime. Additionally, Kayem will be randomly "upgrading" pregame tailgates and grill set-ups around BC with a selection of Kayem Artisan Sausages.
Fans are encouraged to be in their seats early on Friday to take in all of the events around the nationally-televised game.
