Chestnut Hill, Mass. -
Boston College senior Raul Rios won a gold medal at the Pan Am Games Sunday afternoon in the Open Snipe race in Toronto, Canada. Rios and his partner Fernando Monllor scored 20 points, 18 points less than second place finishers Argentina, with 38 points. The US notched 46 points for third place.
The Snipe is a 15 1⁄2 foot, two person, one design racing dinghy. Rios is the skipper during the race.
Rios, a native of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, helped Boston College place second in the team race and third at the Coed National Championship in June. He was named an ISCA Coed All-American Skipper this past season.
This is the second time Rios has competed in the Pan Am Games. He competed in snipe at Guadalajara 2011 Pan Am Games. He was first in the snipe event in the Central American and Caribbean Games in 2014 and the 2014 Western Hemisphere and Orient sailing championships.
