Wujciak Named to Outland Trophy Watch List

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College senior defensive lineman Connor Wujciak was named to the Outland Trophy preseason watch list, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) announced on Friday. Wujciak is one of eight Atlantic Coast Conference players named to the list.
The FWAA named 81 players to the Outland preseason watch list. The Outland is presented annually to the nation’s top interior lineman on offense or defense.
Wujciak a West Caldwell, N.J., native, started every game of the 2014 season for the Eagles. He was third on the team with 7.5 tackles for loss and has three sacks for a loss of 29 yards. He blocked a field goal at Virginia Tech that would have made it a one-point game going into half time; it was the second time he blocked a field goal BC, as he did as a sophomore at Georgia Tech. He finished the 2014 season with 33 tackles and two quarterback hurries.
Boston College's only Outland Trophy winner was Mike Ruth in 1985.
The Outland Trophy winner is chosen from three finalists who are a part of the FWAA All-America Team. The FWAA All-America Committee, after voting input from the entire membership, selects the 26-man first team and eventually the three Outland finalists. A list of semifinalists will be announced on Nov. 19 and three finalists will be named on Nov. 24. The winner of the 70th Outland Trophy, named after the late John Outland, an All-America lineman at Penn at the turn of the 20th century, will be announced on ESPN on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 10 for the first time from the National Football Foundation's College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
The Outland Trophy presentation banquet, sponsored by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee, will be held on Jan. 14, 2016 in Omaha, Neb. This year, Maryland's Randy White, the 1975 Outland Trophy winner, will be honored and presented an Outland Trophy, which was not given in the era in which he won the award.
